Bayern Munich, the powerhouse of Bundesliga will be playing at their home ground Allianz Arena, welcoming Atletico Madrid players to UCL group A thrilling match between the two top teams in Germany and Spain. Bayern are coming from an excellent weekend having won the match against Bielefeld despite Corentin Tolisso being shown red in the 76th minute by the referee although the match ended with a 4-1 win for Bayern.
Atletico Madrid also won their weekend away match with 2 goals to nothing over Celta Vigo with Luis Suarez opening the scoring sheet followed by Yannick Carrasco, with Madrid in for the good for over the last 4 league games with two wins as well as two draws are yet to lose a game.
Bayern and Madrid will be looking to qualify in their Group A table as top guns and will probably test each other during the match since the visitors have an impressive track record of conceding more than 2.5 goals. The Wednesday night match will be action packed making it more difficult to predict without the final starting eleven for both teams.
Diego Simeone will be looking to stop the goal machine Robert Lewandowski, who was last season’s UCL top scorer, from doing what he does best against his team by using his popular 4-4-2 defence strategy whereby LB and RB make runs while also dropping back the forwards to act as extra defenders.
Team tactics and formations
Hans-Dieter Flick will be missing Serge Gnabry (Coronavirus), Leroy Sane and Tanguy Nianzou will also be out due injury and will therefore see Lewandowski leasing the attack as the only striker. Thomas Muller will playing behind the Polish striker as supporting mid-field attack, with duo showing impressive results this season and despite Gnabry being out as well as Sane, they still pose a great threat to the rigid Atl. Madrid defence.
Possible lineups 4-2-3-1; Manuel Neuer, Davies, Hernadez, Sule, Pavard, kimmich, Goretzka, muller, costa, coman, Lewandowski
Simeone’s new signing Luis Suarez has proved to be very effective. And with a track record of the most clean sheets, it’s difficult for opponents to score more than 2 goals against them without them responding accordingly. Oblak has proven time and time again as the best shot stopper in La Liga making him a vital asset for the Madrid defence.
Players out due to injury include Diego Costa (thigh injury), Sime Vrsaljko, Saul and Jose Maria Gimenez. The Spanish giants have a strong defence and with the signing of Luis Suarez a former Barcelona sensation, Simeone is happy to start him over Morata.
Possible lineup 4-4-2; Oblak, Trippier, Savic, Felipe, Lodi, Correa, Koke, Torreira, Saul, Joao Felix, Suarez.
Head to head
Bayern and Atl. Madrid have played against each other 4 times in the champion’s league with Atl. Winning twice and Bayern securing the narrow win also twice. Overall goals per match was under 2.5 goals so don’t expect a goal feast on Wednesday late night UCL match.
Double chance Bayern to win or draw (1/X)
