The two heavy weights of world football travel to Allianz Arena (Germany) to face off in a do or die match for the semi-finals qualifications. The Belgium side are the favourites to lift the Cup with Romelu Lukaku showing Christiano Ronaldo off in their one goal victory at Sevilla and we expect the same during their clash with İtaly. Italy have however also been on their best form during the Euros and managed to snatch the win during extra time to qualify at Wembley. This is a must watch match for any football fan and we anticipate it to be action packed. Let’s take a look at team formation, head to head, possible lineup and match predictions.
The Red Devils managed to eliminate the Euro 2016 champions and now definitely have a crack at the Euro 2020 finals. This will be Belgium’s fifth meeting against Italy in a major tournament, drawing once and Italy winning three matches. Italy is the only rival they have played more major tournaments with and not registered a win. Thorgan Hazard has been directly involved in 6 goals in the last 7 starting matches for Belgium scoring four and one assist. Roberto Martinez since his involvement as the head coach in 2016 has seen Belgium score more than 175 goals and won 47 matches in major tournaments. Both Martinez and Italy’s coach (Roberto Mancini) have won their first four matches in the Euro 2020. With Kevin De Bruyne and Eden Hazard doubtful, Martinez may bring in Dries Mertnez and Carrasco to fill the void.
Team formation: 3-4-2-1
Possible Starting 11.
Forward: Romelu Lukaku (CF) Dries Mertnez (LF) & Yannick Carrasco (LM)
Midfielders: Thorgan Hazard (LF) Axel Witsel (CM) Youri Tielemans (CM) Thomas Meunier (RB).
Defenders: Jan Vertonghen (CB) Thomas Vermaelen (CB) Toby Alderweireld (CB).
Goalkeeper: Thibaut Courtois (GK).
This is the fourth consecutive time Italy have qualified for the quarter finals of the European championship tournament and have been eliminated in the quarter finals in their last 3 matches through penalty shootouts. Matteo Pessian has scored in two previous matches for Italy and will be the second player to score three consecutive goals in the Euros, with the first being Christian Vieri (1998). Italy have a good record of conceding less goals and only conceded more the 2 goals in one match out of 18 played in previous tournaments. Despite winning all four previous matches Italy are yet to register a 5th win streak and will definitely meet their match at Germany with Belgium showing consistent performance through the competition.
Team formation: 4-3-3
