Premier League action returns to Merseyside as Everton welcome champions Liverpool at Goodison Park.

In what will be the 288th meeting of these two great sides of English football, the signs are all there for a pulsating match with both teams on the upper echelon of the table.

After struggling at Villa Park in their last match, Jurgen Klopp will find it difficult against a side with all wins from the four played so far. The Toffees go into the game on a remarkable streak of form progressing beyond expectations in both the league and the Carabao Cup.

The blue side of Merseyside can dare to dream this term with exciting signings seeming to come true to what is expected of them. The addition of Colombian maestro James Rodriguez, midfield marshall Abdoulaye Doucoure and Allan has added great spice to their game.

Klopp, who will be marking five years at the helm of the champions, will be expected to make changes welcoming back the likes of captain Jordan Henderson, Sadio Mane and Thiago Alcantara, the latter two missing out on action in the past few games due to coronavirus infections.

The Reds have been Everton’s Waterloo, failing to lose them in the past 10 PL games stretching back five years to October 2015. But that could be history given the form the hosts are in now.

The disparity in league form between the two sides could be seen when Everton breezed past Brighton at home last time out as the visitors were served a demolition of 7 goals to two, a defeat never seen before handed to a champion since inception.

Everton have previously been pathetic with starts to previous seasons despite going large in summer signings. That seems to be days gone by, currently looking like a club big on strategy with their massive investment paying off under the experienced Carlo Ancelotti.

For a side expected to challenge for the top 6, they sit top on the log with no sign of stopping. Their main man on form currently Dominic Calvert-Lewin is expected to continue his hot streak of form.

Should they win the early Saturday kick-off, the surprise leaders could move 6 points ahead of the champions.

Liverpool’s main concern lies in defence with reliable stopper Alisson out with a shoulder injury. Adrian will continue in between the sticks despite being not as dependable as the Brazilian keeper. This will be bad reading for the visitors given that the hosts have lost just one of their 14 home games across all competitions under the Italian tactician.

Xherdan Shaqiri, Joel Matip and Naby Keita are all available but Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain sitting this one out as he recovers from a knee problem.

Everton will be sweating over the fitness of Lucas Digne after picking up a knee injury on international duty with France.

Head to Head:

The hosts have won none of the past 10 Premier League meetings with the visitors, losing out on four occasions.
