The Blues will be welcoming Sevilla to Stamford Bridge during today’s UEFA Champions League match week 1 having shared points over the weekend with Southampton after a late goal winner from Jannik Vestergaard. Coach Frank Lampard knows he has his work cut out for him and has admitted that the teams defence is still a big problem and he is hoping to improve the team’s weak defending tactics.
The Premier League match saw new arrivals Timo Werner scoring twice as well as assisting and Kai Havertz also scoring. The Blues understand that the UCL is a different league all together and they are looking forward to qualify on their group stage match with Sevilla showing some signs of giving Chelsea a hard time during week 1.
Sevilla will be missing some key players like Jules Konde due to testing positive for coronavirus will be out during the match due to following of regulations and guide lines provided by the WHO. Julien Lopetegui’s men have won each of their last 3 major UEFA matches, against premier league teams and with Chelsea losing their last 2 UCL matches.
This UCL match will be difficult to predict since it’s the first time for both teams and both sides showing great performance in their league race. Sevilla also lost 1-0 to Granada over the weekend and are hoping to retain their impressive form on the defensive side.
Team tactics and latest news on player injury
Lampard will be happy to have Thiago Silva back having missed the Southampton draw over the weekend, the blues will be hoping to secure a home win against the formidable Sevilla defence that has been the strong part of the team and is probably going to cause probably for the blues strikers.
The Chelsea defence is still a big worry for frank with Zouma and Kepa showing defence errors that led them to conceded a goal to Southampton having finished the first half 2-1 and this errors caused the comeback to finish the game level. Caballero will most likely come in form Kepa after defence errors over the weekend
Possible formation; (4-2-3-1) in the defence the possible lines up will be Caballero, Thiago Silva, Antony Rudiger, Ben Chilwel and Reece James. The mid-field Kante, Kovacic, Hakim Ziyech, Havertz, Pulisic and Werner as the solo striker.
They will be playing without Kounde who will be substituted by Sergi Gomez and with Acuna not fully fit, we also doubt if the player will be included in the lineup. Ivan Rakitic and Captain Jesus Navas will looking to utilize gaps left by the poor man marking skills of Chelsea defence.
Sevilla attacking front failed over the weekend to score against Granada and resulted in 1-0 defeat, Julien is betting on De Jong to break the dead lock by scoring first blood against the home team, with help of Suso and Ocampos.
Possible Sevilla lineup (4-3-3); Bono, Navas, Gomez, Carlos, Acuna, Jordan, Fernaco, Rakitic, De Jong, Ocampos and Suso.
